On Saturday, September 16, Indiana Landmarks leads a three-hour bike tour of historic Garfield Park and our neighborhood from 9 am - 1 pm. Bike tour participants will stop to visit Vickie Goens’s historic brick bungalow with a red tile roof at 902 East Garfield Drive. Erwin George “Cannon Ball” Baker, winner of the first motorcycle race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909 and a competitor in the 1922 Indy 500, built the house in 1925 and lived here until his death in 1960. As a motorcycle racer, he set transcontinental distance and speed records and won entry to the Motorsports Hall of Fame and the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The house sits facing the park at the elbow where South Garfield Drive bends to become East Garfield Drive. The bike tour also will stop at the 1865 home of Page and Russ Clemens at 869 Southern Avenue.
